Hey Seniors! So I am unexpectedly out today, so let's have a break from Urban|Plan and have a thesis brainstorming day! Use your sketchbooks and my computers. Do some research, sketch some ideas... whatever floats your boat! Unfortunately I have your thesis ideas you submitted here at home with me. :(
I can't wait to see what you come up with today! See you on Thursday. <3 You guys, we need to do exercise 5 but this is a VERY LONG assignment! Do your best to get to know ALL the different roles in the groups through this assignment. You will be choosing your role today!
Exercise 5 is in the shared folder you can find in the previous post. Have fun! Today we will begin the dive into the Urban|Plan program. This program was started by the Urban Land Institute in conjunction with real estate developers to show high school students what impact building decisions can have on a community. Please find appropriate documents in the shared folder "Urban|Plan - share with students" which you can only access using the following link through your davinci email address:

Senior Advanced Architecture students will be presenting the design competition project they have been working on all semester. This will include a number of drawings as well as model, if the group so chooses. The quality of work should reflect the time put in and the students have had months to make this a very high quality project with excellent craft and design decisions. Students will sign up for a thirty minute time slot (SEE BUTTON ABOVE) in the afternoon over the weeks of POL and they will be required to observe a presentation as well. Students are expected to explain their design process as well as answer questions from the teacher and panel-members. POL rubric can be consulted for more details. Rubrics have been handed out in class and can also be found below.
Today students selected the design competition in which they'd like to compete. They also selected an architect to research and present on. Their options were:
Zaha Hadid Frank Gehry Frank Lloyd Wright Rem Koolhaas Santiago Calatrava Antoni Gaudi Richard Meier Tadao Ando David Adjaye OR students could submit an architect not listed above. Welcome back! Today we went over a Google Slide presentation (you can download the PDF below) and discussed what this year will look like in advanced architecture. We will begin with a Design Competition which we will have to submit sometime in November. You will find links at the top of this page to each of the Design Competition options. We will discuss this more on Thursday as we investigate all of our options.
